She points to the sin of pride as the root issue she has with the work. Unfortunately, mortal man has a tendency toward claiming righteousness, without taking responsibility for his own thinking and behavior. True righteousness only occurs in accordance with God’s plan, which centers on repentance. The concept of righteousness constructed by mortal man is a “Leviathan’s counterfeit,” rooted in pride.
Pastor Vitale notes that those with habits of pride should be encouraged, as righteousness is available, and God wants us to possess it. However, it is something that can only be achieved through following God’s plan: “He is the creator and you are the clay, and it cannot be any other way.” One cannot proclaim righteousness and adherence to Christian belief and expect to be absolved of past wrongs.
