Also known as the Song of Songs, the Song of Solomon provides intriguing complexity through its many layers. Some see in it merely the story of Solomon, who falls in love with and pursues a Shulamite girl until she agrees to be his. Others see a rich poem that exalts the beauty of love.
The Song of Solomon, however, also gives insight into the nature of God's love for his people. The groom represents another son of David, Jesus, and the bride represents God's people. In this light, the story powerfully demonstrates how God never gives up on loving us, even when our love grows cold, as the bride's love does in chapter five.
Reading the Song of Solomon today can provide a deeper understanding of the Lord's love, leading to greater intimacy with him.
