A Discussion Of Hebrews 6 - Repentance Leads Away From Sin

A DISCUSSION OF HEBREWS 6 -
REPENTANCE LEADS AWAY FROM SIN

Based in Port Jefferson Station, New York, Living Epistles Ministries publishes teachings founded on the Bible. In a recent post, Living Epistles Ministries founder Sheila Vitale provides insight into Hebrews 6:4-6.

The passage states it is not possible for those who were enlightened, have partaken of the Holy Ghost, and tasted the Word of God, to be renewed into repentance should they fall to sin again. The Apostle Paul, who wrote the book of Hebrews, explains the reason is that such people have, figuratively, crucified Jesus Christ again and put Him to shame.

Pastor Vitale states this passage teaches that those who receive the Word of God but have evil spiritual powers in their lives that lead them to sin have not truly repented. They are not truly, deeply sorrowed enough by the sin to make it feel totally wrong. If they were, God would remove the desire to sin from them.

Because God did not remove the desire, they remain exposed to the sin and can easily fall back. This is why it is important for believers to repent wholeheartedly, to the extent that they despise sin. Only then will God remove the desire from them, allowing them to be made new. Otherwise, they will choose to sin, rejecting Christ.
