-- going to be in the middle of the night, is going to be when my eyes are wide open, and the Scripture that He gave me is Jesus in the water baptism, and we -- if you can receive it, we do have teachings in this ministry which say He was caught up to full stature pretty much at the same time or shortly after His water baptism. He was wide awake, and the second witness that God gave me with regard to that was by bringing back to my memory at least three experiences that I've had. I don't know whether I was in full stature or not, because I don't know what it feels like to be in full stature, but I was up pretty high, brethren. I was up pretty high. And when God catches you up that high, He catches you up for a purpose, and each time that I was caught up that high, it was either for Him -- because it was the Lord's intention to heal somebody through me, so therefore, He had to pour power through me. Those were two occasions, one a physical healing, one a mental healing, and the other two occasions were to cast out a demon that probably couldn't have been cast out if that measure of power wasn't flowing through me.

So I've been up there. Whether I hit the ceiling or not, I don't know, but I would be happy to stay there, where I was. And the one time that I was caught up for the purpose of God healing somebody, I stayed up for two weeks, and I didn't even start to come down until, after one week, I was walking right down this street over here, and I felt myself descending. I had a temper tantrum right in the street, screaming and stamping my feet that I didn't want to come down, but it didn't do me any good. As you all know, I came down. But it was glorious up there, and every time that it happened, it happened when my eyes were wide open. The Spirit just rose in me.

So, why He told me that yesterday, your guess is as good as mine, but I've been asking the question for a long time, and He answered me yesterday. See, the Lord -- really, having a relationship with the Lord is very interesting. I was just complaining to Him the other day, how hard it is having a relationship with Him. And He, the Lord Jesus Christ, is the primary relationship in my life. Some people have a problem with that because He is invisible. I'll be honest with you. I have a problem with that, because He's invisible, and my greatest frustration is that when I talk to Him, sometimes He answers me, and sometimes He doesn't. And when I ask Him a question, sometimes He answers me, and sometimes He doesn't answer me for a year. He always answers me, but it can be a very long time, and since I know that He has all knowledge, if He were a human being, I would expect to ask God -- if you come to me and ask me a question, I would expect Him to answer me. But He doesn't do it. He doesn't do it. I don't know why He doesn't do it, but it's my greatest frustration in our relationship, and I've told Him that.

Now, sometimes I know He doesn't answer me because I couldn't understand what He's talking about. You know how I say to you all the time, do you know what I'm talking about? Do you know -- well, He says it to me all the time. Do you know what I'm talking about? Do you know what I'm talking about? Maybe I couldn't understand His answer, but in all honesty, I have to tell you, the answer that He gave me with regard to the catching up, I would have been able to understand that answer ever since I preached that message, "Jesus in the Jordan." So why it took Him this long to answer me, if He tells you, please let me know. I don't know.

So it's wonderful having a relationship with the Lord. It's glorious in many ways that human relationships are not. You're -- they just -- and you just can't have it in a human relationship, but there are frustrations if you're still human. It's -- there are frustrations, and this is one of them, that it's bad enough that He doesn't answer me, but sometimes He doesn't even -- it's bad enough that He doesn't answer my question, but sometimes He doesn't even talk to me, and that really is not easy to deal with, you know. I usually cry and scream a lot. Sometimes He answers me, and sometimes He doesn't.

Nothing moves Him. He is immovable. He's immovable. He just does what He's going to do, and everything He does is the very best thing that He could do for us at the moment. It may not seem that way, and it may not feel that way. It can be very painful, but His motive is perfect. His motive is perfect, and when He -- what He does for us, what He says to us, His response to us -- whatever He lets -- whatever kind of trial He lets us go through, His motive for letting us go through it is perfect.

He is without fault. So, if we are suffering, that means that there is something in us that is not adjusted properly. Did you ever try to adjust a VCR or a stereo receiver? If we're hurting because of His -- because of what He does, something's not adjusted properly in us, and that's just true for every human being on the face of the earth today. Some of us are adjusted a little better than others, but nobody's adjusted.

So, as you could see, or maybe Elijah visited us -- we have a message written on the blackboard. That's the first time that ever happened. I wondered if it appeared supernaturally, but I found out that it didn't, that someone with a human hand wrote it. It says, Living Epistles Ministries, where we're all under fire.

Well, I speak fire against the fire, and I speak victory to everybody here. I rebuke your enemies. I rebuke the enemies of God's people. I rebuke pride. Well, yeah, you know, it's all the same. Everybody's got the same enemies. It's just manifesting a little different in everybody else. It's all the same. I rebuke pride. I rebuke witchcraft. I rebuke Jezebel. I rebuke envy, I rebuke condemnation, wrath, rage, and every wicked work that has ever arisen from the fallen heart of man, and I condemn you, and I speak life upon you and grace and victory and deliverance and hope and the love of God and the beauty of His life. And I say unto you, who has ever condemned whom God has blessed? And if God be for you, who can be against you?

So, if you have difficult circumstances in your life, all that it means is that you're not tuned, and the more difficult your experiences, it means the worse your tuning is. And if you're in agony, it means your tuning's really bad, but God's going to get you tuned. So just hang on, and He's going to do it. Praise the Lord. There's no place to run, brethren. There is no place to run, no place in this world, no place in the universe. The Lord said, if you go down to hell, He's there with you. If you ascend to the highest heights, He's there with you. There's no place you can run. This thing is spiritual.

This thing is spiritual. Someone's trying to kill you, and he's a spirit, and he has control all over -- or, at least, partial control over every human being on the face of the earth. His name is Satan. He manifests through his carnal mind. There's no place you can run, and neither is there any place that you could run from your Friend. You see, you have an enemy that's trying to kill you -- his name is the carnal mind -- but you also have a Friend that's trying to kill you, and His name is Who?

Christ. He's going to get you. He's going to get that wicked carnal mind that's trying to kill you, and He's going to raise you from the dead. And there's no place you can run from anyone. You see, if your carnal mind gets you, then your body dies, and it's all over for the season. But if Christ gets you, after He kills you, He raises you from the dead, and you'll never die again. And there's no place you can run from either one of them.

So dig your trench, dig your foxhole, and get in there, and get a gun and find out how to shoot it, because there's no place to go. Did you want to say something? OK.

You can say that the Scripture says that the wound of a friend is better than the kiss of an enemy. Isn't that --?

Is that -- I'm not -- I can't quote the exact Scripture. Better to be --

[CROSSTALK] that friend [UNINTELLIGIBLE].

And better to be wounded by your friend than so- -- than the kiss of an enemy. I -- where is that, in Proverbs? It sounds like a proverb. Well, praise God. It sounds good enough to me. You know, I'll take it.

Now look, brethren. If you're not going through anything, you're not in a church that's a church. You know, a church is spiritual. It has nothing to do with the building that you're in. It has nothing to do with the music that's played, other than from the fact -- you know, I'm not talking about the spirit that's flowing through it. It has nothing to do with how many people are in it or whether the people are men or women or whether they're black or white. It has nothing to do with any of that stuff. A church is where Christ is, and He said, "If two or three be gathered in My name, I will be in the midst of you."

And we have dead churches all over this country, all over the world. Some have hundreds of people; some have thousands of people. Some have beautiful, gorgeous buildings and all kinds of expensive pews and programs, and the church is dead. And there's only thing that can kill a church, and that is that Christ leaves it. And where He is, if you're meeting in the midst of the woods under a tree, that is church. And where Christ is, there is judgment, as June sang in her song today. I can't remember the exact line.

"Bring your judgments down on me."

"Bring your judgments down on me, lest I die." The judgments of God are merciful, and they bring forth the peaceable fruit of righteousness, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. For God to leave us in this condition without correction, and the correction -- another word for judgment is correction. For Christ to leave us in this condition would be a sign of hatred. His own word clearly states, "If you don't discipline your children, you hate them." And we are His children. And the Scripture also states, if we're not being chastened or disciplined, we're not His children. We're what?

            Bastards.

So everybody reads that Scripture. It says, amen, if we're not chastened, we're bastards. And then the rod falls down, and everybody's screaming and yelling and running around the block, including me. It's not pleasant, but it shall yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness. It shall save your life in the long run.

Praise God. This is going to be an interesting evening. I can see this already. I have a very strange message tonight. I'll do the best I can with it, and we'll see how it turns out, but I do -- I have some news I'd like to share with you first, a couple of good things happening. It looks like we have an opening into Kenya.

            Kenya?

Kenya, yes.

            What's happening?

OK, so we'll see what God's going to do with that.

            [INAUDIBLE] It's just done falling.

OK. The definition of new order deliverance as opposed to old order deliverance is this. Old order deliverance is the casting out of demons. Demons are thoughts. They're thoughts that are ungodly, and sometimes they can have a lot of power in your mind, and they can influence you to do something that you really know is destructive to your own person, but you can't get that thought out of your mind. If that's what's happening, if you're being driven to do something that you really are convicted of is to your own destruction, and the thought in your mind is overwhelming, the chances are excellent that it's a demon, and it can be cast out, if the Lord permits.

New order deliverance is not towards an individual thought, but towards a soul that is -- well, I don't want to use any -- new order deliverance is dealing with the soul or the whole personality, and it cannot be cast out. The whole personality cannot be cast out. You will die, if you do not have a personality. You can lose a demon that's driving you to gamble, and it will not destroy your personality, but everybody's soul is fallen. And no matter how well we have it covered over, every human being alive has pride, has some measure of witchcraft, Jezebel, envy, retaliation and wrath. Some people just cover it up better than other people, but fallen man has a wicked heart, and every one of us is a manifestation of fallen man. And therefore, we are not saved by works. That wicked heart must be crucified, and it's pretty hard to crucify it, if not impossible, if you cannot see it. So new order deliverance is the crucifixion of the ungodly soul.

Now, what makes our soul ungodly? The mind, which is in the soul, makes it either godly or ungodly. If the mind in the soul is the carnal mind, another name for our soul is either the fallen soul or the old man, and the way we crucify the flesh or the old man is by crucifying the mind that is in that flesh. Brethren, if you want to kill my body, if you want to kill me, you don't take a knife and jab my arm. Even if you cut my arm off, you don't kill me. You have to get my heart. If you want to destroy this flesh, this body that I live in, you've got to get my heart. The Bible says you stab me under the fifth rib, one swift stroke, and the whole body goes down.

Well, if you want to kill your fallen soul, you've got to get it under the spiritual fifth rib. You've got to crucify that carnal mind. And then, what happens is, we're told in the Scripture, that that soul which is -- which was wicked is now righteous, because the wicked mind that was contaminating it has been crucified to Christ, and the ruling mind in the soul is righteous. And if your mind is righteous, your soul shall be righteous.

So old order deliverance is dealing with the lion and the bear, not -- I mean, I am in no way minimizing the difficult work of old order deliverance. I'm in no way knocking it or putting it down or minimizing it. All that I'm saying is that there's a bigger work, and David clearly said he fought the lion and the bear, but now he's after the giant, Goliath, and that's the truth of the Scripture.

I thank God for all the brave men and women that prayed for me over a five-year period and for all the brave men and women that are still doing it and that have ever done it, and if that's what God has assigned you to, you stay with it, but don't forget that there's a giant around the corner. Now you may get called to fight him, and you may not, and if your place is old order deliverance, I give it a very high regard. But if you're called to fight the giant, come on out and fight the giant. You've got to be prepared to fight him.

So, did I make that clear, everybody? Old order, new order deliverance. OK. So I guess you've got your new book, Mary. It's going to be on new order deliverance.

OK, I have another interesting message for you tonight, and I'm not sure how I'm going to do this. So let's hope God is with me, which I believe He is. I'm working with a book that was written by Freud. Some of you may know that he was a psychiatrist. Some people call him the father of psychiatry. He is the man who discovered the unconscious mind. Now, I find these teachings on psychiatry and psychology so interesting, because if you really read what they're talking about, they're talking about the soul of man. I don't think they would deny that. They're saying so much of what's in the Bible, but they're making it very highfalutin and very difficult, and they put own terminology in it. This is a very difficult book. Several passages, I had to read two or three times, and after I read it, I said, oh, that's what he's saying. He's talking about Satan. I see, you know.

They're talking -- the study of psychology and psychiatry is talking about the mind of man, and the Bible is talking about the mind of man. And yet, if you were to interview people on the street, it would probably be very difficult to find people who would understand that the true students of the Scripture are in the same war as the psychiatrists. They're looking to understand the soul and the mind which is in it, and they're looking to help those who have a damaged soul or a damaged mind. Only the people that are working with God are using the power of God as their primary weapon, and those who are representatives of the psychiatric community have the mind of man.

So, the problem is the pride of man, you see. You've got -- all knowledge in the universe is in Christ, but I really love these studies that God gives us. It gives me great pleasure to establish to the small degree that God lets me, because I'm certainly no expert in psychiatry, but to the extent that God lets me, to show how the two trains of thought meet. And that's a great blessing to me, and it also gives a second witness. Some people in the church might fault me for this. They would say, who would want a witness from the world? But it's another witness that there is truth in these deep teachings about the mind which are coming forth here, which God is bringing forth here, because it's time for the church to grow up, and we've got to stop skipping down the yellow brick path, and we've got to start to understand that the whole Bible is a parable about our fallen mind and what God is going to do to remedy our condition.

And it's very nice to go out and minister to other people -- I do it myself as I'm led by the Spirit -- but our primary project, brethren, is getting our own head straight, because when we get our own head straight, we're going to really be able to help others, not in our flesh, but by the Spirit of God flowing through us.

So, of course, we go through a period where we're in both camps, where we're working on getting our head straight, and there are people who we can minister to. But as you get your head straighter, the amounts of people that you can minister to increases, and the intensity of the problems that the people have, or the people that God sends you to will be people with greater intensity of problem, as you get your own head straight, because knowledge isn't going to do it. It's not knowledge alone. You need the knowledge. I'm teaching the doctrine. You need the knowledge, but you've got to get your head straight. You've got to get in touch with your own emotions, with your own motives, with your own feelings, and you've got to kill them. You've got to get them under control, so that they don't contaminate the ministry that God wants to do through you.

So, if you're not looking at the works of Satan in your own mind, if you're choosing to look away from them, they will contaminate the ministry that Christ will pour out through you, and depending on the degree to which Satan in your own mind is contaminating the ministry that Christ is pouring out through you, that is the same degree to which He will restrain the intensity of that ministry. He will use you the second you are ready. He will use you up to the hilt, up to the absolute point at which you start to contaminate His ministry, and this is not a punishment. We have natural consequences of our behavior and natural consequences of our condition. God says you're qualified to minister to a certain level. It's not a punishment. He says, get yourself straightened out, and I'll let you go higher, but you can't go higher because you want to. You must be qualified. It's not a punishment. That's reality.

OK, I'm going to try and bring this thing forth. The name of the book is "Beyond the Pleasure Principle." "Beyond the Pleasure Principle," and it was written by Sigmund Freud, who is no longer amongst the living. As I said earlier, he was the first person to -- or the first doctor to write about the unconscious mind.

So let's define pleasure principle. This is Freud's definition of the pleasure principle. Freud says that every man has a will and that every man will make choices or whatever choices are necessary to avoid pain and to experience pleasure. That sounds right. It sounds right. Not many people would -- do you want me to say it again? OK. Freud says that the basic nature of man is such that he will make choices which will avoid pain and enable him to experience pleasure.

So, if you -- let me give you an example. If you have a choice of marrying two different people, and it's obvious to you that one person is abusive and will make your life a torment, and the other person is sweet, kind, gentle, loving and promises a great potential for a positive life, the mind that is functioning well will choose the mate which will bring pleasure into his life and will reject the mate which will bring torment into his life. OK? But as we go on with this study, we're going to find out that the pleasure principle does not always operate in people's minds, and some people would do just the opposite. They would choose the mate which would bring great pain into their life and reject the mate who would give them pleasure. So we see a malfunctioning mind under these conditions.

So, let's go on. Does anybody not understand what the pleasure principle is? OK. Let's define pleasure. He says -- Freud says -- this is interesting. He says that there is a natural tension in the mind. You might call it anxiety; you might call it stress. He doesn't use these words. I'm just trying to put it in words that you can understand. Freud calls it a tension. We might call it a need. I think I like that better. People -- human beings -- we have needs. And when we have a need that rises in us, we experience a tension to get that need met. So Freud says that pleasure is the cutting off of that tension.

Now just let me give you an example. I have a parakeet in there. Well, I -- when I first got this bird -- actually, it wasn't this bird. It was his -- the bird -- his predecessor, the bird that was before him. I was sitting in the kitchen one night, and the bird was frantic, absolutely -- I mean, that bird was tense. Let me tell you, that bird had a tension. He was frantic, and he was hopping back and forth along the perch of the cage, and I knew that he was upset, and I didn't know what was wrong with the bird. And I prayed for him. I said, Lord, I don't know what's wrong with that bird. Please help him.

And the Lord showed me -- now this was -- I hadn't had a bird in years. I had no memory of taking care of him at all, that when the bird eats birdseed, it cracks the shell, eats the seed, and the shell stays in the cup. The bird was starving to death, and I thought he had food because the cup was all full of shells. And the Lord told me that that's what was wrong with him, and I fed him, and he was OK.

But my point is, the bird had a tension. He had a need, and that need was producing a tension in him, a stress to get that need met. So Freud says that when you have -- and everybody has these tensions, they're normal -- that when your need is met, you experience pleasure. You have a tension, and you're tense until your need is met. And this is Freud's definition of pleasure. Does anybody not know what I'm talking about?

And, of course, unpleasure [sic] -- I would say, displeasure, but Freud says unpleasure -- would be an increase in this tension. It's not pleasurable to have a need that is not met. And I'm going to add this: nor is it pleasurable to have a desire that you know is destructive to you and to try to be fighting against it -- not pleasurable, not pleasurable, not pleasurable.

So, Freud tells us, it is -- well, he's -- let me tell you this. He calls the mind the mental apparatus. He says, it is the work -- I'm going to use our terminology. It is the work of the mind or the whole apparatus to keep unpleasure low, to get your needs satisfied to the greatest degree possible. You want to see some lazy person get up and go get a job? Take their food away, man. You will see a bunch of people running out to do anything. They may not have gotten out of bed for 20 years, but when they're hungry enough, they're going to get out of bed.

You should see the people in Nigeria. I've never seen anything like it. There's no social help at all. There's no government help at all. If they don't work, they don't eat. If they don't get money, they don't eat. They're out all over the streets. Their shops are open, some of them, in some areas, until midnight. You try and drive your car down the highway, and you stop for traffic, and six -- Mary's laughing -- six people surround the car. One's trying to sell you ice cream, someone else is trying to sell you an egg, someone else is trying to sell you a map -- everything. Even the Nigerians that were hosting me had to laugh about it. You can buy anything when you drive from one area to another. You never have to get out of your car. They come right to you. You don't even have to get out of your car. Everybody's on the street, hustling, because to not have enough food produces a tension that is very unpleasurable.

Another example is companionship. A lack of companionship produces -- well, I shouldn't say that. There is a normal tension, a normal need, for fellowship, and when one does not have that need met, it is most unpleasurable.

So, we have just defined pleasure and the pleasure principle, and we're told that it is the work of the mental apparatus or the mind to keep unpleasure low. What does that mean? Well, when you're hungry, your mind figures out how to get the food. When you're lonely, your mind figures out how to get some fellowship. So the mind is very important, because it not only mediates between our emotional needs, but it also mediates between our physical need and getting our physical need met. If you need -- if you're cold -- one of the most unpleasant experiences I ever had was when I was in Girl Scout camp, and when I packed my bedroll, I didn't take enough blankets. I was cold all night. I couldn't sleep. I was up all night with my teeth chattering. It was most unpleasurable. So your mind mediates between the need and satisfying that need.

Now, if something goes wrong in your mind, so that it's not functioning to get your needs met, we've got one problem. Whoever we are, we've got one problem.

So we see that there is a constancy principle. This is Freud's term again -- constancy principle -- and that is the job of the mind, to keep this unpleasure low. If you're hungry, go get food. If you're lonely, find someone that's willing to talk to you and that you enjoy talking to. If you're cold, go get yourself some clothing. That's the job of the mind. It's not the job of the soul.

Remember, the soul is -- I'm sorry, the mind is in the soul and expressing itself through the soul. The soul is the emotions. The mind is the rational thought. And the mind -- by the mind, you figure out how to get your need met. See, in your soul, you're feeling the tension, that you're lonely. Your mind rationalizes a way to get it met.

So Freud calls that the constancy principle. Most people -- their mind is working continuously, way ahead of their need, figuring out how they're going to get their need met the next time they feel needy. And, in this world, that's not a bad thing. It's considered being sharp and being with it and taking care of yourself.

So, next, we hear Freud speaking about the reality principle. The reality principle, Freud says -- well, you know, we all know that in this world, there -- you cannot get every need met. There are some tensions that cannot be satisfied. You cannot do everything that you want to do. You cannot go everywhere that you want to go. So that's the reality principle. It's in direct opposition to the pleasure principle. You can't do everything that gives you pleasure.

This is -- we can even say, this is the rational or the rationale of the mind opposing the emotions of the soul. They're contesting one another, and the mind is saying to the soul, which is pure lust, you cannot have everything you want. You cannot buy everything you want. You're going to have to pay the bill. There's going to be consequences, if you buy it and you don't pay the bill. You could go to jail.

I heard a story, not too long ago. I couldn't -- really, like, I don't want to say I can't believe it, but the stories are getting wilder. I know these people since they're babies. This young lady borrowed her sister's credit card to rent a car, and she went out and charged up $10,000 worth of charges and left town. This was to her own sister. And her sister never -- I don't -- never told her husband. She went out and got a job and paid off the $10,000. I don't know how she did it without telling her husband, but that's what I'm told.

You can't do everything you want to do. You must face the reality of the consequences of your behavior. See, an infant does whatever it wants to do, just lets it all hang out, but from a very young age, you -- that infant, hopefully, is beginning to be restrained by the parents. And what does that restraint do? You see, we have a society today that says, don't restrain your children. You're abusive. Restraining your children builds in that child an ability to discipline themselves. If you don't restrain and discipline your children, by the time they become adults, they will be unable to discipline themselves, and we have a whole society called -- of -- called -- so-called compulsive people. They cannot restrain themselves because they weren't adequately disciplined as children, or at least, in most of the cases, that's where it comes from.

OK. I'd like to read you what Freud has to say about the reality principle. His language is a little deep. I feel to read it to you, and then I'll try to put it in simple English, and if you have questions, I'll take questions as we go tonight. This is what Freud says about the reality principle. He says, "This principle does not abandon -- or does not do away with -- the intention of ultimately obtaining pleasure, but it does demand and carry into effect the postponement of satisfaction."

Do you hear this? The reality principle does not say you can't ever have it, but when it starts to operate in your mind, it enables you to postpone that gratification. You see, an infant must have instant gratification, and if it doesn't have instant gratification, what does that mean? If what the infant wants is not given to it immediately, it has a temper tantrum. But as we become adults, and we learn to cope with this world, we learn to postpone satisfaction. There are certain things that you can have, but you can't have them at this age, or you can't have them in this place, or you can't have them with this person. You can have them with another person.

So the reality principle comes in and modifies the pleasure principle, and it says, hold on, we'll get it for you, but it has to be under certain ordained circumstances. So we're talking about the reality principle opposing the pleasure principle, and this reality principle aband- -- well, let me read you from the beginning. I lost my train of thought.

"This principle does not abandon the intention of ultimately obtaining pleasure, but it nevertheless demands and carries into effect the postponement of satisfaction, the abandonment of a number of possibilities of gaining satisfaction and the temporary toleration of unpleasure as a step on the long, indirect road to pleasure."

So the reality principle teaches us, as we become adults, that as we become enabled to postpone satisfaction, we find out that in the long run, we can obtain more pleasure than if we had grabbed at straws in the immediate present. Does anyone not what -- know what I'm talking about?

Let's make it real simple. Let's talk about mates. If you grab the husband or the wife that's there and ready at the moment, because you feel you can't live without being married, you might not do nearly as well as if you put off that satisfaction of being married and wait until you get down the road, when God provides his choice for you, which could be, or would be, way beyond anything you could have ever hoped for in your own choice. So, if you put off the satisfaction of this need, trusting in God, this is a manifestation of the reality principle in your life opposing the pleasure principle in your life, and it's far preferable to deal with the reality of the fact that God has not yet provided what His choice is of the perfect mate for you.

So, as adults, we put off the satisfaction of that pleasure. Everybody OK? Glory to God.

OK. Now, I've just marked off some spots in this book, and I'm just going to read you the statements, relate them when I can to the Scripture, and we'll see what God gives us.

"There can be no doubt, however, that the replacement of the pleasure principle by the reality principle can only be made responsible for a small number, and by no means the most intense, of unpleasurable experiences."

What Freud is saying is that if you feel that you want something, and you resist it, and you don't get it, that does produce unpleasure, but this unpleasure that comes from this source is only a small amount of the overall unpleasure that human beings feel throughout their lifetimes. He's saying, denying self is ver- -- a very small amount of the unpleasure that we feel. Is everybody OK? He's saying that this pain comes from -- the majority of pain comes from other places, and I'll clue you in. What he's saying -- he's saying that the majority of pain comes from repressed feelings that are in your unconscious mind from events that have happened in your childhood that have wounded your soul, and we're going to go into this as we go along. And I'm going to stop getting ahead of myself. OK.

If you'll just bear with me with these silences, I think I'm just going to read these statements to myself and then just expound on them. OK, he's talking about repression. He's talking about repression, and he's saying that when we deny ourselves, it's much healthier to keep it in your conscious mind -- to say, yes, I want to get married, and I'm looking forward towards God's mate. That's OK, but we find, with a lot of people, they are distressed by their desires. They're distressed by the tensions that they're feeling, and they crush them down into their unconscious mind. They're distressed because they're feeling envy. They're distressed because they recognize rage or hatred or violence or murder in themselves, and they repress it. They crush it so badly that it leaves their conscious mind, and it goes into their conscious -- unconscious mind, and it's much more dangerous in your unconscious mind, because when a denied desire goes into your unconscious mind, it then starts to manifest in different ways that have -- that you can't really relate to the repressed desire, and you find problems in your life that you don't know how to deal with, because you can't -- it doesn't make any sense.

What you're doing doesn't seem to make any sense, but it all relates to something that has been repressed, something hidden that's on your -- the unconscious part of your soul. And when you get something like that, it's usually as a result of some form of pain, hurt, shock or disappointment that happened in early childhood. It's called repression. That's where your trouble is, because before you can deal with the problem, you have to dig it up and see what's making you do this kind of behavior, and it's very hard to do. It takes the mercy of God. Sometime -- they have some success in psychotherapy, but it takes the power of God.

OK. Just please bear with me, with these silences. OK, then Freud talks about neurosis. We're just doing some definitions here, so we'll know what he's talking about. I have a definition of a neurosis for you. A neurosis is a dys- -- I'm going to put it in my own words. A neurosis is a fear or an anxiety. It's an emotional problem. It's an anxiety or a fear that you don't know -- you don't know why you're afraid of that. You see a cat, and you're afraid of the cat. You're a group of 55 people. Everybody loves cats. You -- you're terrified of cats. You go running down the street when you see them. It's not just the way you are. There has to be a reason for it. Something has to be going on in your unconscious mind that is causing this fear of cats, and probably something that happened way back in your childhood.

Freud says that a neurosis -- you may not have heard of the word neurosis, but you may -- well, you may have been more likely to have heard of the word neurotic. Have you heard of someone being neuro- -- neurotic? OK. People who are neurotic are in touch with reality. They're usually people who function, who work, who hold a job, who have marriages and families, but they have fears that bring torment into their life. And they don't -- they -- these fears arise and over -- rise up from the [AUDIO CUTS OUT], but they're in there. They're in there. So the trick is to find out what is at the root of this anxiety and this fear, which can be affecting your entire life. You've got to get at the root. You must get at the root.

So Freud says that neurosis is caused by an unexpected event which produces fear -- not so much a shock, he says, not so much a shock, but a shock that you were unprepared for. If you're a prize fighter, and you're in the ring, and the guy that you're fighting comes in and gives you a real strong clip and knocks you down, you're not shocked. You know you're in a prize fight. You're expecting to get hit. You're hoping not to, but you're expecting to get hit. But that which causes neurosis is a shock that you're not expecting, and we'll find a little later on in the book that he says, no matter how severe the shock, if you have -- the better prepared you are for it, the less likely you are to have long-lasting unconscious results from it or life-damaging results from it.

And when I read that, all I could think about was those of us who are being prepared to enter into the Kingdom. I -- I'm telling you, not many people is -- are taking this preparation, but we're going to be entering into a time period very soon where the Lord's going to be taking people against their will, and the shock is going to be tremendous because they won't sit for the preparation. They don't want it. They don't want it. And when the time comes that His Spirit really is let loose upon the earth in full force, and He starts taking people -- you see, this is -- we are His creation, brethren. We are his wife. We are the wife of the living God. The human race is His wife, and we're -- we've been running away from Him for thousands of years. Scripturally and spiritually speaking, we are a harlot. We are an unfaithful wife, and we have not fulfilled our obligation to Him. We don't want Him. Frequently, we hate Him.

And He's making preparation to get us back against our will, because we belong to Him, and there's a lot of fantasy in the church today, saying that Jesus is letting all these people go because He's a gentleman, and He wouldn't make anyone do anything against their will. He'd rather that they burnt in eternal torment than force them to come to the Lord against their will. I wonder if these people ever stop to think about what they're saying. He's such a gentleman that He'll let them be in torment forever, and spiritually speaking, this torment is described as a form of spiritual white slavery. So he loves us so much, He's such a gentleman -- He's saying, you hang out there. Let them pump you up with drugs and bring all the clients in. But He's a gentleman. He wouldn't make you come against your will. God help us.

So, all I could think about, when I read that, was that those of us who are the majority are -- who are not going to be prepared, the shock is going to be tremendous. It's going to be absolutely tremendous. Now I only know one thing. They're not going to die, yeah, but they're going to be to the point of death. They're going to be totally unprepared.

OK, let's try and move this along a little here. OK, as a part of neurosis, we see something that's called fixation. We find that very frequently, and it's when the person is shocked, when they're -- when something, what they would consider bad, happens to them, and they're not prepared for it, especially when they're children, they become fixated at that age. They become fixated. If it happens when they're 8 years old, even though their body matures and they're a young woman, in many areas, if not in all areas, their behavior and the way they think is still that of an 18 -- of an 8-year-old, and they were fixated at the age of 8. That's what that word means.

We have physical men and women in this -- I don't know about the world, but in this country today, whose mind is functioning like an infant. They walk and they talk. Some of them have very good jobs. Some of them have college educations, but in their emotional reactions, they are reacting like infants. Something went wrong as they were being raised, and they never matured emotionally. You can mature physically and intellectually and not be mature emotionally. It's a plague across this country today.

So I have a couple of definitions for you: the difference between fright, anxiety and fear. So Freud says that a neurosis is caused by fright, and his definition of fright is to be confronted with danger without preparation -- to be confronted with danger without preparation. This is the whole church, brethren. They don't even know they're in a war. Every time I ever dream about the church world, God shows them to me as at a resort, at a hotel, along the beach, you know, with the tables and the umbrellas over them, drinking piña coladas. Every time I ever dream about -- to have that scene in a dream, God tells me it's the church. They're on vacation. They're totally unprepared, and they are about to be shocked, and that shock is called trauma. So we have what Freud calls a trauma neurosis, a condition of fear which results from having been frightened without preparation, and that fright produced a shock that was a spiritual wound in your soul.

And, as we go on, we'll find out that what wound does, is that it breaks down the natural spiritual defenses. This whole world -- I was very excited to read in this book that Freud acknowledges that this whole world is full of spiritual energy. The whole world is full of spiritual energy. There's energy within you, and there's energy without you. This world is a spiritual jungle. Every time you relate to another person, you're running the risk of it being a spiritual warfare. If somebody wants you to do something, you make a judgment -- you don't want to do it. You have to see it for what it is. It's not just a negotiation. It's not just a conversation. Every time you relate to somebody, it's a spiritual warfare, your will against their will.

It's just a fact of life. Even in marriages, I don't know anybody that's so selfless that they're married, and they never come to a place where they're nose to nose with their mate. It has to be. Why? Because at least one person is looking out for his own best interest, and that that best interest is not the best interest of the other person -- at least one person, if not both of them. You see, in a marriage, if both people are doing what's best for the marriage, or for the family, there'll never be any fights. Well, there could still be a fight if each person honestly, well, belie- -- has a different opinion of what's best for the family, but if you take it -- if you square root it, if they're in disagreement, somebody's opinion of what's best for the family is rooted in self-interest. Does anybody not know what I'm talking about?

If everybody really had the ability to lay down their own personal needs and say, I want to do what's best for this family, there would be no fights in the family, but it's impossible because we're fallen. But that should be attainable in Christ. If you're dealing with two believers, ideally, every conflict, if it's truly submitted to the Lord, there should be no reason for argument. There can be a reason for disagreement. There can be a reason for disagreement, but if both people genuinely go before God and ask for His will and ask Him to make His will real to them, to help them, there should be no reason whatsoever for argument, for ungodly separation or any form of stress and dissension. Any such behavior is resulting from one's fighting for one's own self-interest. And it's called carnal. That's what it's called.

So Freud says that fright is to be confronted with danger without being prepared. A child that is abused by its parent never expects to be abused but finds himself in a condition of being confronted by danger from his own parent, and he's shocked and frequently traumatized and fixated at a young age. If you're losing me with these words, please wave at me. I'm making them as clear as I can. What don't -- well, you were inside. OK, what don't you understand?

            Fixation.

Fixation, I'll go over that for you. OK. Fixation is when a child is shocked at a particular age, has a shock, has a trauma, and their physical body and their intellect matures, but their emotional age stays at that age. So we can have a 25-year-old woman with a 25-year-old intellect. She can be a college graduate, but emotionally, she's 8 years old. And it's the result of a shock which has been produced by fright, which means the child became afraid without any expectation of being -- she had no concept whatsoever that there would be any reason for her being afraid, and then she -- don't answer it. Put it on pause, please.

OK. It's [UNINTELLIGIBLE].

OK, so we're saying that fixation is the same thing as arrested development, and it occurs -- and it produce -- it occurs when a child is young. I guess it could happen to an adult too, because we're continuously maturing throughout our lives, but it happens mostly to children who are confronted with a danger that they don't expect. They're unprepared, and they're totally incapable of dealing with it. And what happens is that their spiritual wall gets a hole knocked in it. We have spiritual and emotional defenses, and if you're hurt or you're threatened by the person that you expect to protect you, that is the most serious and the most common way of a child getting their wall -- getting a -- getting their wall knocked down or getting a hole in their wall.

And as we'll find out as we go on, Freud is saying that there's energy within, and there's energy throughout this whole world. It's -- we're -- it -- this whole creation is an energy. This flesh is just covering the energy, and that when you get a hole in your wall because of a shock, what happens is that all of the energy from the outside starts gushing in, just as if you can imagine a dam or just -- does anybody remember the story about the little Dutch boy who put his finger in the dyke? A dy- -- in Holland, they have -- I don't even know how to describe it. They have -- it's like a reservoir, and there's a wall around the reservoir, a place that -- a holding place for wa- -- for water. And, if you put a hole in that wall, all the water comes gushing out.

Well, there's energy within, within us, and there's energy without us, and that energy is in the mind. It's in our mind, and it's other people's minds, and we have a shield. We have a wall that we're born with, and that wall is supposed to restrain the external energy and only let certain amounts of energy in. And when you get a hole in your wall, all that energy, all that negative energy from other's people's minds starts rushing in.

And then, what does that mean? It means that your mental apparatus, which has the ability to deal with, let's say, 10 percent energy -- I don't know how else to express it -- 10 percent of energy from the external world -- your mind is capable of dealing with so much energy, and you have a shield up that only lets 10 percent through, and you're doing fine. And then, one day, you're frightened, and our definition of fright is that you're confronted with danger that you're not prepared for, and it puts a hole in your wall, and the energy, the external energy, starts pouring in upon your mind. And your mind is not prepared to deal with all this energy.

Now what happens? You go into crisis, and the energies that are supposed to be directed towards other areas, just as an example, to get food to survive in this world, to go to learn in school, all of that energy is withdrawn, and it goes towards the hurt area. And you may know that children that have suffered in their childhood, they don't do well in school. They can't concentrate on their studies. They can't keep their mind on it. They have learning disorders because their internal or their mental, internal area has been disrupted, and the energy necessary to study and do well in school has been withdrawn and redirected towards the damaged area. The only problem is, the damaged area doesn't usually get hurt, so the child or the individual just remains with a mind in a state of chaos unless -- and it could be for the rest of their life unless God intervenes or unless they get a good psychiatrist. That is -- sometimes psychiatrists can help you. So their whole mentality, the whole mental functioning, has been thrown off balance because they were frightened.

Anxiety is the expectation of danger, and fear is a definite object of which one is afraid. To have fear is to know what you are afraid of, to have anxiety is to expect danger, and to be frightened is to be caught off guard, is to be confronted with danger without preparation. Freud says that, in his opinion, only fright can produce a trauma neurosis. Only to be confronted with danger that you're not prepared for, that's what hurts you. Anxiety doesn't hurt you. Knowing who you're afraid of doesn't hurt you. It's when you're naïve, it's when you're innocent, it's when you're childlike, it's when you're not expecting it, and you get punched in the head. That's when you get hurt.

It's the same thing physically. It's the same thing physically. If you see someone coming at you, and you know they're going to punch you, and for some reason, you can't get away from it -- if you see them coming for your abdomen, you just tense your mu- -- you tense your muscles, right? It's the same thing with your mind. If you see it coming, if you understand it, you can -- somehow, there's an apparatus in your mind that defends you. But if you don't see it coming, and your muscles are soft, and your spiritual muscles are soft, you just get damaged.

So we find that, with people who have had this experience and who are fixated, that they repeat that experience, or they can be brought into a condition where they will repeat this experience for the rest of their life. If they have a bad experience with their mother or their father, they will -- let's say their parents or one parent abused them. They will find themselves in abusive relationships for the rest of their life. Have you ever heard it said, I married a man just like my mother, just like my father? Have you ever met someone who's divorced three, four times, and every time that man turns out to be an adulterer?

I know somebody like that, and they did -- they were -- they did -- there were no signs whatsoever that they were adulterers when the woman married them, but there was an unseen or an unconscious reaching out of their souls to one another. They just connected. In church, we call it a curse. I call it a curse. It's no accident you married four times, and each of the four times, you find out that the guy has a girlfriend on the side or another wife in another town -- or four times, he leaves you for another woman. Maybe once -- maybe, maybe, maybe -- even the second time, I'd be crying out, you know. Four times? That's a curse.

So we find that this wound and this fixation is constantly forcing itself to relive that experience, and Freud says the patient is fixated to his trauma. He's fixated to his trauma. He spends the rest of his life with different people, having the same experience that he had with his father or with his mother. OK, just please put it --

Evil memory recall, is that --

Just plea- -- OK. Evil memory recall? Well, I don't know if -- I wouldn't say it's the same thing, because evil memory recall is -- my understanding of it, anyway, is that you would remember somebody who hurt you, and you would relive the fight with that person. I used to have that. Over and over in my mind, I'd remember what they said, and I remember what I would say, and I remember the evil that they did to me.

But what we're talking about here is -- and that -- that's a conscious thing. In your mind, you know who you're thinking about, and you remember the incident that you're thinking about, but what we're talking about here is having a curse set up in your emotions that will attract you to a friend or to a mate who will have the same quality as the person who wounded you, and then you get into the same trouble, but this doesn't -- it's amazing, because it doesn't matter who the person is. It's a spiritual thing.

It's that every time you get married, this is what happens to you. Every time you make a friend, this is what happens to you. Every time you look for a job, this is what happens to you. It doesn't matter who the person is. It's doesn't matter wha- -- what country you run to or what state you run to: different people, different times, different places, but the same result. Every time you get a job, you get fired. Did I make myself clear? OK.

Can I just ask one thing?

Yeah.

I had thought, you know, when Jesus says, co- -- Satan, come for Me, there's nothing in Me -- I always thought it was one demon attracting another demon in a person. But if you're on a job situation, and you keep getting fired, it wouldn't be the same principle, right, of one demon.

It is the same prin- -- well, I don't know how I -- that I can relate it to Jesus having nothing in Him. Let me address both issues. What -- when Jesus said, "Satan cometh and he hath nothing in Me," what Jesus meant was that He had -- His carnal mind was totally under control. He meant that Satan -- see, when Satan moves in your life, He moves through your carnal mind, and Jesus' carnal mind was completely under the control of the Christ, and that was what He meant. Satan has no power over Me because My carnal mind is utterly crushed. OK?

Now, with regard to getting fired all the time or winding up with the same kind of abusive boss all the time, it's something that operates in the realm of the spirit. It's -- it -- the job -- when you go on the job interview, it's the job that you're attracted to. It's the person hiring you being attracted to you. Oh -- only a naïve person would think, and I don't -- if anyone here is naïve, I'm not insulting you. I'm just telling you the truth. Only a naïve person would think that, when a choice is made for an employee, that you are chosen -- that the most qualified person is chosen. There are other factors. They like the way you look. They like the way you talk. They like your personality, they -- it's much more than being qualified for the job.

So, if you have a curse like this operating in your life, it's either you choosing someone who's going to abuse you or fire you or them choosing you for the same reason. It's all unconscious, but if you have a problem where you're winding up with an abusive employer anywhere you go in the country, and you keep winding up with employers that mistreat you in the same way, you'd better believe you've got a curse operating in your life that's attracting this kind of problem to you.

            Barnyard pecking order curse, huh?

Barnyard pecking? Well, that too. There's all kinds of curses.

So these things go down into our unconscious mind, and our unconscious mind is sending out messages to other people, and this goes on all the time. People communicate on an unconscious level. You meet someone, you look across the room, and you're madly in love. Brethren, you can't be madly in love by looking at someone across the room. You can't, because love is commitment, and love is responsibility, and love is faithfulness. If you look across the room and you see somebody and you think you're in love with them, it's lust. That's all that it is. That's all that it is. You can't love somebody the first time you look at their face.

I'm killing romance here, but I'm telling you the truth. You know, there was a time in this society, you know, 50 or 100 years ago, where it happened a lot. I've heard lots of stories. Two people looked across the room, and they fell madly in love, and they spent the next 50 years together, and after 50 years of marriage, they had nothing but wonderful things to say about each other. But in this year, in this country, that is one dangerous thing to do, because there's a mental illness over the whole nation. Our relationships are distorted, our marriages, our families are distorted. Things are different today, and everyone -- there's this heavy, negative spirit of death over the nation and over the people and their relationships in there.

I really wouldn't want to be looking at someone across the yard and running off and marrying them. I mean, they used to romanticize things like this. It used to sound wonderful, love at first sight. It's not working today. You're taking your life in your hands, if you try to do that today.

OK, let's try and go on. So, it's possible -- let me just repeat that now. It's possible for someone to be fixated to their trauma. That means they can't get out of it. They had a bad experience, and they can't pick themself up and dust themself off and get back on the horse and go on with their life. They can't get past what happened to them, and they keep reliving it, over and over again. Glory to God. OK.

OK, just bear with me, please. OK, let me read you this. "There is no doubt that the conscience -- the conscious and the unconscious ego operates under the pleasure principle." That means we're trying to gain pleasure and avoid unpleasure. It's both conscious and unconscious. "It seeks to avoid the unpleasure, which would be produced by the liberation of that which is repressed." Let me explain it to you.

We find out, that once this problem is repressed and goes down into our unconscious mind, the pleasure principle starts to become perverse. Why? Because the pleasure -- not that the principle is perverse, but it starts to work against us instead of for us, and this is how. This pleasure principle which is in us, which is trying to avoid unpleasure, knows that if that which is repressed in us comes up, it's going to be painful. So a principle, which under the right circumstances would help us to choose the right mate and reject the wrong mate, now is working against our deliverance, because in order for us to be delivered from the problem in our life, we have to look into our soul, into our unconscious mind, and find out what pain, what damage, what event, what trauma occurred that is producing this ungodly behavior in our life. And the pleasure principle, which was meant to protect us, is now operating to destroy us, because it doesn't want us to remember, because remembering will be unpleasure.

Does anyone not know what I'm talking about?

But, in this instance, it's the pain that's going to set us free. It's remembering, it's going back to the crossroads, it's going back to the place where our life started getting destructive and painful and facing what shocked us, facing what hurt us and dealing with it now as mature adults and going on. But the pleasure principle is saying uh-uh and putting all of its spiritual energy against your remembering or going back to that place from which your life took a wrong turn.

So, what am I saying? Your own mind is working against you. Your own spiritual defenses are working against you getting well. They're repressing that pain; they're repressing that incident. They don't want you to deal with it. Brethren, none of us want to deal with this pain. We're all the same. We're all the same. No one wants to look at it. No one wants to admit it. No one wants to face it. It hurts. OK.

I was just thinking that there's healthy pain, and there's destructive pain.

Yes, that is true. When the carnal mind wounds you, you receive this -- exactly what we're talking about, this trauma that has hurt you and damaged your life. But when Christ wounds you, He kills that which is killing you, and He raises you from the dead. But the problem in this hour is that all -- with very few exceptions, every believer God has sent me to, they have a problem recognizing that pai- -- that Christ can give you pain, number one, that -- and even if they acknowledge that Christ gives some people pain, they don't want to believe that He's giving them pain. And even if they believe that Christ gives pain, and He's giving them pain, they don't want to believe that you're the vessel that He's using to give them the pain. And it's all part of this defense mechanism of the pleasure principle saying, I'm not going to let you experience pain.

Does anyone not know what I'm talking about? We call it denial. Another name for it is denial -- defense mechanism. We are up against ourself as our own worst enemy.

So, Freud says, "It is clear that the greater part of that which is re-experienced under the compulsion to repeat it must cause unpleasure, since it brings to light activities" -- well, I won't go into that. It doesn't make any sense, you see, when you keep repeating it. Every time you repeat it, you experience unpleasure, but still that mechanism is operating in our mind, that won't let us go back to the -- it won't take the wound that's going to break off the unpleasure. We're cu- -- it's a curse. The church calls it a curse. You're stuck. You're on that track, and you're going round and round and round and round, and you can't get off. You got to go up. You've got to go up.

You know, some people here, they say, I have a curse. Why do you tell me I have a curse? And they get mad. Open up your ears and listen. It's just the name that you call it. Anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear in this world has to know that there are people that are stuck in behavior patterns that are destructive, that are ruining their lives, and they can't get out of them. So what difference does it make if I call it a behavior pattern or a curse? It's a curse! The Bible calls it a curse.

So this compulsion to repeat, what it does, it recalls from the past experiences which include no possibility of pleasure and which can never, even long ago, have brought satisfaction, but since they have been repressed, we're going on and on and on and on -- the pleasure principle gone awry.

So, Freud says, "We have come across people of all people -- we have come across people, all of whose human relationships have the same outcome, such as the benefactor who was abandoned in anger after a time by each of his protégés." Do you know what that means? Somebody who either has money or has an ability to give someone a start in a profession -- every time they help somebody, the person that they help turns around and rejects them. It's happened 15 times.

Maybe you're picking the wrong person? There's got to be something operating. This cannot happen to you 15 times. You can't be left standing at the altar even twice. Something's wrong. You can't be abandoned or betrayed by the one you love, two, three, four times. Something's wrong. That doesn't happen to everybody. Why is it happening to you?

There's something operating in your unconscious mind. It has to be broken, and if you think it's easy, and if you think it's happening overnight, in a week or a month or a year, you are naïve, and I say that with all love in Christ, because it's not true.

So I'd just like to read you these examples. "-- such as the benefactor who was abandoned in anger after a time by each of his protégés." However much they may otherwise differ, however much the individual protégé or disciple differs from one another, they still do the same thing. They abandon him.

"-- and who thus seems doomed to taste all the bitter te- -- bitterness of ingratitude, and this is also true of the man whose friendships all end in betrayal by his friend or the man who, time after time in the course of his life, raises someone else into a position of great private or public authority, and then after a certain amount of time, himself goes after that person and brings him down from his authority. Or, again, the lover, each of whose love affairs with a woman passes through the same phases and reaches the same conclusions."

Freud says that, for this to be happening, the person must have an essential character trait -- listen to me -- an essential character trait which always remains the same. You see, the people change. The people change, but you have an essential character trait that isn't changing, and this is happening to you. This pattern is in your life because you have an essential character trait that is drawing it to you like a magnet. And this essential character trait always remains the same, and it is that which is compelling us to find expression in a repetition of the same experiences that originally traumatized us. We've got to find out what that character trait is, and I want to tell you, it's no small thing.

So I find this interesting. Freud says this. "If we take into account observations" -- such as what I just read to you -- "we shall hopefully find the courage to assume that there really does exist in the mind a compulsion to repeat harmful, dangerous and painful experiences, which compulsion overrides the pleasure principle."

Let me explain that to you. The pleasure principle says, in the way -- in the healthy mind, I'm going to choose that which makes me -- which does me good, and I'm going to reject that which hurts me. But Freud says they've discovered Satan. He discovered Satan. That's what he found, that there is a principle in the mind which is stronger than that which is in us, which would make us do what's good for ourselves. It's possible to have something in your mind that's going to override -- we call it self-destructive. It's possible to have a self-destructive principle that overrides and puts out of your -- out of commission an inborn ability to choose things that will bless you -- to reject things that will bless you and choose things that will kill you, hurt you or bring pain and destruction into your life. And we call it self-destructive or a self-destructive trait or a self-destructive personality.

Well, that thing can be broken in Christ, but I want to tell you, not overnight. And when someone with authority in Christ lays hands on you and says I break that curse in the name of Jesus, that curse begins to break. And depending on how strong it is, and depending on how many generations it goes back -- I'm not in the business of lying to any of you. I never have, and I'm not doing it now. It could take up to 15 years, 15 years of laboring with Christ. It doesn't have to, but I've seen it take that long.

Now people have to hear this, because as distressed as you are at hearing this, I would rather distress you with the truth than see some son that Jesus died for having their heart broken because they think that the curse should have been broken in a week or a year and that Jesus didn't do it for them. Does anyone not know what I'm talking about?

Jesus. OK. "But if a compulsion to repeat does operate in the mind," Freud says, "we should be glad to know something about it, to learn what function it corresponds to, under what conditions it can emerge, or we would say, manifest, and what its relation is to the pleasure principle, because we have all said that the pleasure principle has dominance in our life." That's nor- -- that's a healthy mind, to choose that which is good and to reject that which is evil. So we need to know about this curse. We need to know at what point it rises up and at what point it overtakes the pleasure principle or natural defense. We need to know.

So, as we go on, this is where Freud is talking about what he calls exhort- -- excitations coming from the external world. You may recall, at the beginning of this message, I talked about excitations or tensions, OK, tensions, and here he's saying that they're both in the external world, and they're also within us. And he goes on to say that the ones that are -- the tensions that come from within our own mind are much stronger than the tensions that come from outside.

Now, I'd just like to follow along with the book, because I don't want to miss anything. So he says, Freud says, that feelings of pleasure and unpleasure can arise from within our own mind. We can feel pleasure or unpleasure from that which is happening outside of us, or we can feel pleasure or unpleasure from our own mind. In this ministry, we say heaven or hell is in the mind.

Brethren, I want to tell you, you could be in the most glorious place. Everybody around you could be in absolute ecstasy, and you can be in torment in your mind. Pleasure or unpleasure can arise in your own mind. Now, in the healthy mind, and I'm not putting anybody down -- if you go to the doctor and he tells you, you have a cancer and you need an operation, you don't think that he's insulting you. I'm not insulting you. If you hear yourself in what I'm saying, call Dr. Jesus and ask Him for a prescription. Don't get mad at me. I'm telling you the truth.

In a healthy mind, when joyous things are happening -- if you're at a party, and everybody's happy -- hopefully, you would be happy in your mind. But there are people whose mind is not healthy, and they could be in the midst of a whole group of people having a glorious, good time, and they could be in such agony that they go out and they commit suicide. Does anybody not know that that's true? That's true.

So, in the healthy mind, you're responding to your external stimuli. You're responding to what's happening outside of you. But, in the unhealthy mind, you're not responding to what's happening outside of you, but you're responding to some torment that is in your mind because of a wound that you may have received 30 years earlier, and you became fixated at that wound, and you never got it out of your mind.

So Freud goes on to say, and he uses the brain -- I found this very interesting. He uses the brain as a natural example. He said there must be something, a borderline, lying between your inter- -- your own mind and the stimulation coming from within or the energies coming from within your own mind and the energies coming from outside of your mind. There has to be a borderline. That's what he's saying, and he goes on to say that in the natural brain, there is such a thing, and -- well, let me use his exact words. I don't want to use the wrong words.

He says, "This border that we have, it must be turned towards the external world and not turned inwards." Why? Because this border is our protection, and when it's turned towards the external world, we look at all the stimuli out there, and we choose what we're going to let in and what we're not going to let in. This is the healthy mind. You choose what you're going to believe and what you're not going to believe. It's not healthy to be afraid to hear what other people have to say. You should be able to listen to what other people have to say, but Lord willing, you should be strong enough. And if you're not, I'm not condemning you. Tell God you want to be strong enough in your mind to receive that which is of Christ and to reject that which is not of Christ.

Brethren, we're going out into the streets. We're not just going to be ministering to people in a room like this. You're going to be hearing all kinds of junk. Your mind has to be strong enough to take in which is of Christ and to reject which is not, without attacking the person. There is no defense for your mind by attacking the person or trying to get them to stop talking. The answer is, your mind must become strong enough to not let anything that's not of God past your mind. And if the way you are dealing with people that upset you is by attacking them, you need to confess it as sin and repent. This is witchcraft, and when you try to control their thoughts, it becomes mind control.

So the Lord wants to teach you a new way. He wants to teach you a new way. People should be able to say whatever they want, if it's -- if they're not -- I'm not talking about spirits now. I'm talking about words. If they're saying it in a spirit that's attacking your soul, well, then you have to put a stop to it. But people should be able to express themselves around you without you trying to stop them from talking. That's only your own fear.

So, our defenses are turned towards the external world, monitoring and scr- -- [AUDIO CUTS OUT].

-- is that he calls -- he talks about the seat of consciousness, and of course, we know about the seat of the beast, and we know that Jesus has a throne, which I believe is the same Greek word, translated throne in the case of Jesus and seat in the case of the beast. And it means a foundation, that which the person rests upon. And that's the phrase that Freud uses, the seat of consciousness, and he says it's in the outermost layer of the brain, and he says -- he says, "Speaking anatomically -- speaking the way, about the way the brain is constructed, one would expect consciousness to be lodged -- one would not expect consciousness to be lodged on the surface of the brain, but one would expect it to be safely housed somewhere in the innermost part of the brain."

So we see another manifestation, another sign, that we are a fallen race. Our consciousness, our family jewels, that which is to be protected, that which should be at the deepest, innermost part and surrounded like a fort, is openly on the exterior of the brain. We've been turned inside out on every level. That which should be protected at -- by being on the inside is on the outside, and vice-versa. Now here we see it in the organic structure of the brain. I found that very interesting.

So he's telling us that memory traces have nothing to do with the -- with consciousness. They go down into the unconscious mind, and the -- what is unconscious, what is repressed, what we cannot remember is the most powerful or are the powerful and the most enduring of memories. And some of them never even enter into our conscious mind, and those are the dangerous ones. The conscious mind, you deal with them, but those that go down into the unconscious mind and hide themselves and do their damage from a hidden place, that's everybody's problem, all those wounds from childhood.

So Freud goes on to say that it's easy to suppose that as a result of -- he says that this energy that's hitting against our mind, from the people around us, it's from the minds of the people. It's not from the grass and the trees; it's from the minds of the people. The truth is, it's ceaseless. It never stops. Brethren, I want to tell you that it's true. It never stops. Now listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me.

In the natural, those -- many of us that have been wounded by other people's minds -- you know, some people's minds are stronger than other people's minds. In the world, we call it a dominant personality. It can wound you, especially if that person has authority over you. And the way that the natural man defends himself against this is to put up a wall of denial, put up a wall of denial, lock everything out, and then you forget what's happening. But this is not how it works in Christ.

This is not how it works in Christ. You've got to look at it, because when you bury it -- when you use your natural mind to bury these hurts and forget about them, you may or may not be able to function in this world. It could go either way, but you can't enter into eternal life. You've got to -- you are -- if you've done this, you're -- you have reversed your pleasure principle. You know, if Christ is calling you to come up higher, and you've got this wall up, there's denying all this pain and all these things that have hurt you. You are not choosing that which is good for you. You are not choosing that which will give you pleasure. You are rejecting Christ and cleaving unto the wall that you built up in your spiritual childhood.

And if you want to go on with God, if you want to stand up in full stature, ask Him to help you how to deal with this, because you can't enter into eternal life on a wall that was built by the Pharisee in you, no matter how understandable it was that this was how you dealt with the problems. You can't -- you can only go so far. You can't go on with that technique. You've got to go on in another way, and it's going to require digging up all of this stuff that you buried -- pain, pain, pain -- I don't -- pain, I don't deny it. It's going to dig it all up. It's got to be dealt with in Christ, because some of it, you don't even know it's there. You can't deal with it, if you can't see it. You've got to look at it, and you're not going to be able to look at it until that wall comes down, and that wall coming down is going to hurt.

And the Lord is coming, and He's coming with a sword in Hand. He's going to wound you, and He's going to wound your will, but after he whips you and He tears you and He wounds you, He's going to build you again. Is that not a Scripture in the Book of Isaiah? And He rips, and He tears, and then He builds again. Well, what does that mean? He's ripping down all of your natural defenses, and then He's going to build you in Him. He's going to build you in a mind that's going to go into the Kingdom, that's going to give you the life of the ages.

But the strength of this wall that's in you must come down, and He's go -- if He's called you, brethren, He's going to do it with your permission, or He's going to do it without your permission. And if you've gotten this far in this message, the chances are real good that you're called. He's coming for you. Don't push against the pricks, and don't think evil of His ministers, because He's going to use a man to do it. He's going to use a man to do it.

Glory to God.

Now listen to this. I find this really interesting. He says that the wall that we put up, it's a resistance to the energy coming from other people's minds. Now this is really amazing. I -- this really [?bugs?] me. The wall, our mental wall that faces all of the energies from other's people's minds and decides which one can get in and which one won't get in, it's a resistance to the energy of the other people's minds. Even if you're not aware of it, it's just an everyday warfare. Well, listen to what he says.

He says that as that energy comes against your wall, it starts to hit it. If it's this very strong energy coming against you, it keeps hitting in the same place, and it burns a pathway in your defense, especially if that person is an authority. Every time they come against you, it makes its mark. It chips away, it chips away, it chips away, and it makes a pathway. Freud calls it a pathway. I would call it an open door. I would call it a hole in your hedge, and it chips a hole in your hedge, and that hole does not only let -- well, I'm using an abuse, abuse for lack of a better example. If your father has abused you, every time he abuses you, he's chipping a hole in your hedge, and you've got a big hole in your hedge. And, all of a sudden, there's a pathway through that hedge, and it's not only your father's abuse that's going through, but you find yourself susceptible to any abusive personality. There's a pathway through your defense that has been chipped away.

And in Christ, we've got to get those holes plugged up, and it's not happening overnight. Dig in, brethren, dig in. Don't pick a church because of the social life in it. You've got to get well. You've got to get well.

OK. He says that this external world is charged with the most powerful energies, and that these energies are so powerful that they can kill. I believe that. And he said that our true person -- he doesn't say spirit, but he says our true person would be killed by the energies of this world if we didn't have this shield. It's a spiritual shield that we have. And when that shield comes down, and the most likely thing to bring it down is abuse of one's own parents, it just brings it right down, you can lose your -- you can, you know, become mentally ill, or you can become physically ill, or you can become both, because physical illness is a result of some sort of emotional misstep somewhere. Anyone that's been in deliverance mu- -- must know that.

So we have this spiritual wall shiel- -- wall shielding us against this -- these energies that are out there in this world, and these energies, when they're intense enough and when the world is [?down?] enough, have the power to affect our physical bodies. And when they -- when we get a hole in our hedge, and these energies pass through, the next thing that they do is touch the living material, which is our flesh, the living material, and it becomes damaged.

Now listen to this. He says -- Freud says that there are layers. We have the wall, we have our true self in there -- there are layers going through. And he says these layers become hardened over the years, and they're really not -- they're really -- I honestly don't ha- -- don't know how to relate this to anything that we've been talking in Scripture. But he says that they're layers, and they're not -- they're no longer of the same substance as our sensitive parts inside. They become hardened from the battle. And he says these layers literally have died. They're not -- he doesn't -- he says they're not alive. He says that these layers have laid down their life so that our inner heart can live. And all I could think about is that the carnal mind, which is on top of Christ, must die so that Christ can live.

He says the energies in this world are so destructive that the -- without this shield, we would never survive, and the shield -- it's just like you -- it's like scar tissue. You know what scar tissue is, scar tissue that scabs over a wound? It's dead tissue, but it's protecting what's underneath. He says we have that spiritually and that that tissue must die to protect our inner heart. And, right now, our inner heart is Christ, and that carnal mind must die so that Christ can live.

He says, "By its death, the outer layer has saved all the deeper ones from a similar fate of death. Protection against external stimuli is the most important function for the living organism." That's for us. It's the most important function, protecting ourselves against what's out there. The protective shield is supplied with its own store of energy and must preserve the special -- why these big words? You know, it's, kind of, interesting when you're talking about --

He says the main purpose of this -- of receiving the stimuli, of letting it come in -- the little bits that we let come in, we let come in so that we can examine it, and we can learn how to deal with it. We can learn -- so we let small amounts of hostility come in. We learn how to deal with it. We let small amounts of love come in. We learn how to deal with it, but we're supposed to be monitoring how much can come in and how much is kept out. And when that wall is down, I mentioned it earlier, but it comes in like a flood. The external energy comes in like a flood, and we all have our own energy. Some of it's allotted for various functions of our personality, and that energy is withdrawn to go to the crisis, to blug [sic] up -- plug up that flood, and the rest of our emotional and spiritual needs are not met, and we're just off balance.

We're just totally off balance, and I want to tell you, brethren, I've been telling it to you for years. I'm going to keep on saying it. There's only that you're going to get back on balance, and that's for Jesus to wound you. There is no other way. You've got a leg, a broken leg, that's been set wrong, and the only way is for Him to break that leg again. He's got to break it and rebuild it, and it hurts. And there's no other way. I don't know of any other way. I don't know anyone that knows of any other way, but it's better than staying in what you've got. At least, at the end of the procedure, you'll have eternal life.

Jeez. Now I'd like to make some comments on this. I find this very interesting. Freud says that -- he claim -- he says they, so he said -- well, he says we, so apparently, there are more psychiatrists than he that believe that the unconscious mind is timeless. Now we know the unconscious mind of fallen man is who?

            Satan.

It's Satan. He says that they know, they're of the opinion, this group of psychiatrists, that the unconscious mind is outside of the realm of time. Now I was talking to someone not too long ago about how, when a hypno- -- how, when a hypnotist puts someone into regression, they can remember past lives. What is it, or who is it? And I told them that the Lord had spoken to me. I believe the Lord had spoken to me about this, and this is what the Lord told me. I used to think it was demons, years ago, but now I know that demons are not whole personalities. Demons are thoughts. We have a demon of lust; we have a demon of greed. They're just fragments of your personality. Demons are not whole personalities. So, who is it or what is it that the hypnotist is reaching when he bring -- when he hypnotizes someone and brings them into regression? And God told me that he's directly communicating with Satan, who has lived all of these lives.

Now let me remind you. Satan, the unconscious mind of man -- the unconscious mind in every human being who has ever lived is Satan. Therefore, he has been present in every generation. He has been present every time a human being has existed and experienced this existence. And I believe that's what God told me. Now here it is. Freud is saying the unconscious mind is outside of the realm of time. Can anybody not hear that it's a second witness to what I just said?

You don't have to believe it, but do you understand that it's a se- -- that we're in agreement here? That God told me Satan is outside of the realm of time. He has existed in every age and in -- with every human being that has ever lived. So, when the hypnotist makes a direct contact with Satan, oh, he's just going crazy, telling you all about past lifetimes, giving you all the details. He was there through the whole thing. The demons weren't there through the whole thing.

So here we see a witness from the world. He says unconscious mental processes are timeless. He says time and space doesn't -- it has nothing to do with them. Time doesn't change them, and the idea of time cannot be applied to them. I find that amazing. You never know where God's going to give me my second witnesses from.

I mean, here Freud is saying, that as much as he's talking about the -- he calls them stimuli, the energy coming from the outside, there is energy arising from within the mind of the man. Now this is very important. There is energy or stimulation arising from our own mind. It's coming from Satan in our own mind. And he says, towards the inside, there can be no shield. Do you hear this? We have a shield. We're at war with the minds of the other people out there, but he says there is no shield towards the inside.

Satan in our mind has pretty much free reign with one exception. And what's His name? What's the name of the exception? Christ. There's no shield against Satan in your own mind. Now, if you're not born again, you have the manifestation of Christ that's available to anybody and everybody, and what's that called?

            The law.

The law. There's no shield against Satan in you. There's no shield against your unconscious mind. Just Christ in you, whatever manifestation you have of Him.

And he says -- Freud says that the energies coming from within your own mind, in their intensity and in their amount -- I'm trying to translate this language. Just give me a second. He says it's much greater, in their strength and in the amount of them, than that which is coming in from the world. And he says this condition produces two definite results, either feelings of pleasure or a feeling of unpleasure, and these feelings of pleasure and unpleasure predominate over all of the external energy. He's saying, what's coming from inside of you is stronger on every level than what's coming from outside of you.

Now, brethren, we're not talking much about the Christ mind tonight. If God lets me, I'd like to make some comments on it before we close out, but I don't if He will. The time is getting on. But what I'm pointing out to you is that man knows -- fallen man knows that if you can just lay hold of the energy in your own mind, it's stronger than anything out there. There is a -- there is mind control. You see it in the Eastern religions. You see it mostly, you know, in the Far East, but the -- I see it even in this country.

People that are strong in their minds, it doesn't matter what they look like. It doesn't matter how good-looking they are or how ugly they are or -- well, you have to have some intelligence, but it -- it's your mind. It's what you believe. If you really believe it, you -- your mind affects everybody's opinion of you. If you really believe you're great, if you really believe you're -- that you're fantastic, that it is impossible for you to be without funds, that it is impossible for you to be without a job, that if you're really that positive, that everything's going to work out. It will come to pass. There's a truth in it.

But you can't have a mind like that when your parents have not built up your wall. You have -- to get that mind, it is definitely built in your childhood and through your relationships with your parents, but it's all in your mind. It doesn't matter what you look like or what you sound like. If you refuse to receive the negative energy from people, and the energy rising in you is positive, you will have what the church calls a prosperity spirit.

Now, a lot of us that are in the church today, especially that have been in deliverance, we don't have a mind like that. The world has overcome us in many ways, but I want to tell you that there's a new mind arising in you, and His opinion of you is greater than all of the mental energy coming against you from anywhere. It's greater than what your mother thought and thinks of you. It's greater than what your father thought or thinks of you. It's greater than what your friends and your family thought or thinks of you. What Christ thinks of you is an energy force that is stronger than all of the thoughts of the whole church world and the whole world, including your own immediate family.

But that mind has to arise in you, and I want to tell you that your own carnal mind is trying to kill Him as He comes forth, and your carnal mind is trying to kill the ministers that He's sent to help your Christ mind come forth. And it's time for all of us that can hear it -- if you can hear it, if you can receive it -- to rise up and start rebuking your own carnal mind or pleasure principle that is working against what Christ is doing in your life. You've got to join with Christ and fight. And if you don't join with Christ and fight, and He has determined to come forth in you anyway, He is coming forth, and it's going to be much more painful. That -- that's my opinion. It's just like having a baby. If you push when you're told to push, it will be much easier on you. It's very painful to push when you're not supposed to be pushing.

Now, if you can't help it, if you're fighting against the One that's trying to deliver you and [AUDIO CUTS OUT] -- Now, if you can't help it, if you're fighting against the One that's trying to deliver you and save your life, and you really can't help it, well, God knows. But if He's bringing you, He's bringing you anyway, and it could be -- it's possible to be much less painful if you will just work with Him. This is not an easy operation. It's a miracle! What He's doing for you is a miracle, just like they say giving birth to a baby is a miracle. This spiritual baby is a miracle.

So, he says that there are -- he says this condition of having an energy in your mind as well as outside produces two results -- or a strong energy in your mind. The number one is that it deals with feelings of pleasure and unpleasure that -- from within your mind, that predominate over everything coming against you.

Brethren, I feel that God wants me to do it here. I have to relate this to Christ here. Brethren, as Christ arises in you, your mind is going to be opposing every thought that is out there. You can't be rising in Christ and be worrying what people think about you, or if you can't help it, He's going to arise in you. You've got to come to a place where what they think means nothing or what they believe means nothing. You've got to come to a place where only the energy in your mind is your only reality. Can you hear what I'm saying? Christ in your mind must be your only reality, and as He arises in your mind, that energy from the minds of the carnal minds of people are going to be bombarding you. If you're not standing, there's no crime in it, but ask God to help you to stand.

The only true reality is Christ. Even Freud says so. Is that amazing? I just know someone's going to hear this message and say I'm giving glory to Freud. Does anybody here think I'm giving glory to Freud? I'm telling you, there's no difference between what the world says and what the church says or what the true Word of God says. Only, if it -- those of us that are really deep in Christ, we've got an even great manifestation of it than the world.

See, it's awesome, this truth about our mind. The only true reality -- he says here, feeling the internal energy has the potential to overwhelm all external energy. Christ is rising. Your new Son -- your Son is arising in you. He must overcome every external thought, Jesus.

What you believe is the only true reality. I -- we see it in the demonic. We see people in the Middle Eastern religions. They can't feel pain; they walk on nails; they slice themselves with knives; they swallow fire. That's Satan. What do you think we could accomplish in Christ, with the Christ in full stature -- with the Christ in full stature?

Brethren, the only reality is what's in your mind. People can only hurt you if you receive what they're doing to you. Now I'm not in any way suggesting that you should just go out and not feel anything, but what I am -- because I know that's not -- I can't do it. What I'm suggesting to you is that that should be a goal. Now there's a world of difference between your raising up a shield in your carnal mind and saying, I will not be hurt -- that's a shield made out of the scales of Leviathan -- maybe at the time that you raised it up, it saved your life. But I want to tell you that there's a shield in Christ. It's going to give you eternal life, and you can't have both shields. You can't have both shields, brethren; you can't have both of them.

Glory to God.

[UNINTELLIGIBLE] So we see that this mind, when it's in full stature, we can take our body and travel. We can provide food. We won't need anything. You see, when we're not being influenced at all by the energy outside of us, all provision will come from within. It's all working together. Do you want to be so independent, to have such dominion over this soul realm, that no matter what happens out there, you'll be fed -- that no matter what happens out there, you'll be warm -- that what -- whatever happens out there, your needs will be met? The way it's going to happen to you is that the Christ mind must become so strong in you that it's not at all affected by what other people are thinking or saying or doing.

And that's what we're being brought to. There's no condemnation if you're not there. I give you a vision. Without a vision, My people perish. I give you a vision. Someone said to me once, what good is all this doctrine doing you? This doctrine is not the only thing that's building Christ in you, but it's building Christ in you. It's very important. When He is the only thing that's filling your mind, nothing can hurt you. The reason you're hurt is because you're being affected by other people's minds and by your own carnal mind.

Now listen to this. We talk about this in the church. We call it projection. Freud says that a particular way is adopted of dealing with -- I can't use his big words. I just know people aren't going to understand me. He's saying that there is a particular way of dealing with plea- -- with unpleasure in our emotions, and there is a -- and this is the way it's done. There is a tendency to treat this unpleasure as though the person themselves was acting, not from the inside, but from the outside.

Listen to this. We all have a natural shield against energy coming from the outside. We have no shield against the energy coming from the inside. So when the energy that's coming from the inside of us, whose name is who? Satan -- when he starts hurting us, when he starts hurting us, we have no defen- -- now this is outside of Christ. OK? We have no defense against him, so the tendency is to project the pain and believe that it's coming from outside of us. He says right here, this is the basis for projection.

And he says it's a defense mechanism. This is the origin of projection, which plays such a large part in mental problems. On some level, we know that we have -- outside of Christ now, that we have no defense against the pain coming from our own heart. So we project it against someone else, and we think that it's coming from outside of us, because when it's coming from outside of us, that we have a protection against.

So the root of projection is fear of what we see in our own hearts and a terror of being unable to deal with it. Now, in Christ, we could deal with it, but we've been denying what's in our hearts for so many years that now that Christ is there, we're still in the same groove. We're still not looking at it but thinking that it's the guy out there that's doing and thinking and feeling what's really in our own heart. It's called projection.

But, you see, now there's no reason to do that anymore, because now we have a shield against it. I beat up Satan in my carnal mind every day. Sin comes into my mind. I say, get out of there. I want to tell you, just this afternoon when I was preparing for this message, for a couple of hours I was under an assault in my mind. I still don't know where it came from, but I knew it was discomfiting me, it was ungodly thoughts, and finally, I was resisting and resisting and resisting, and finally, I just got mad. And I said, I don't know where you're coming from, but I send you back. I broke the curses. I only prayed for a minute, just did everything I knew how to do, and I got deliverance, and it broke. The torment was over.

We now have a shield -- not only a shield against the energy in our mind, but a weapon against the energy in our mind. And to have that weapon and not use it, Jesus said, is like taking that talent and burying it under the ground. You're an unfaithful servant. You've got a weapon. You've got to rise up and use it, and if you're overcome, you have to cry out to God to deliver you. But, you see, all the rules have changed. We now have a defense against the internal energy. Hallelujah! That's exciting to me.

Now we have another -- a definition of traumatic here. Freud says that we describe as traumatic any stimulation from the outside which are [sic] powerful enough to break through our protective shield. A trauma is a shock. We have a spiritual shield. Anyone that pierces our shield traumatizes us -- can traumatize us. Now, the more unprepared we are for this penetration, the more traumatizing it's going to be. If you know you're in a war, and you get hit, you shouldn't be traumatized. You expect to get hit. But that's what a trauma is, some energy coming from the outside which is powerful enough to break your protective shield. Such an event as an external trauma is bound to provoke a disturbance throughout the whole mind and body. Spiritual trauma and physical trauma can affect the whole mind and the whole body.

And he says here that once that hole is punched in our hedge, there's no longer any hope of holding out the energy source from the outside world. And I've known several people -- well, and I myself had that problem at one time. And your hedge is down. That's the way we say it in the church: your hedge is down, and it happens in childhood, usually when the parent-child relationship is not what it should be. That's when the hedge is built. It's built in the parent-child relationship. It's torn down by witchcraft, largely by witchcraft, and a malformed or malfunctioning relationship with the parents. It's just never built.

OK, I told you all this. I went ahead of the book. OK, he's saying here that preparedness is the best weapon. That's what he's saying. It is the last line of defense of the shield against this energy: preparedness. Brethren, do you know how many people God has called to prepare for the shock that's coming? They won't come. Look, if it's this painful in the preparation, what do you think it's going to be like when you get hit without preparation? The Scripture is very clear. It's all through the Book of Revelation, and the church tells you it's for the world. No, it's for the church, for the unprepared church.

We're almost finished. I just have a couple more here. I don't think we're going to that. Let me see what I have here. OK, a few more comments on repeating that early trauma. OK, I think I mentioned this already, that it doesn't make any sense that when we're fixated and we repeat the re-experiencing of this unpleasant experience. It wasn't pleasant when it happened, and it's not pleasant when it happens now, so our pleasure principle is out of whack. We talked about that already.

And -- oh, this is interesting. Freud uses the word bound. He uses the word to -- he doesn't say bind and loose, but he uses the word bound. And he says here -- now, don't anybody get mad at me. The truth is going to set you free. He says, in a person which has this problem, the events of his childhood, by them repeating like this, utterly goes against the pleasure principle. And when the pati- -- when the person seeking help does this, when this continuous repetition -- Freud says he's behaving in an infantile fashion. Now that's not an insult. It's just a reality. If you're immature, you're immature. He's behaving in an infantile fashion, and this kind of behavior, he says, shows us that the repressed memories -- memories that are not in our conscious mind -- of his infantile experiences are not present in him in a bound state.

What he's saying is, if you have painful experiences in childhood, and you're dealing with them in a mature manner, they're bound up. They're there, but they can't do you any damage. But if your childhood experiences are breaking through into your adult life, he says they're not bound, and this is a conti- -- a condition of infantilism and immaturity. That's not an insult. You have to know what your problem is to get help.

And he says people that are being -- well, he's talking about people in psychoanalysis, but I relate this to people in this ministry, where God is starting to point out your sins. He says most people that are confronted with this feel an obscure fear -- that means a fear that they cannot identify -- a dread of rousing up something that they feel is better left sleeping. And what they're afraid of at the bottom is the emergence of this compulsion and the -- and they're afraid that it's going to be revealed that there has -- that there's some kind of demonic power behind it. That's what he's saying, but of course, in the church, we know that there's some demonic power behind it. He says, you know, it's just a dread. I've seen it all over people. It's just a dread when they come near the spiritual ministry here, and I tell them all the time, it's your carnal mind. Whether they believe me or not, they run.

So these experiences, according to Freud, have to be bound up. I say, according to the church, they have to be ripped out. But this is the sign. Now, somehow -- well, I know, it -- by the grace of God, I know what it takes. I know what God has told me. It takes a wound. It's a wound that fixated you at 8 years old, and it's going to take a wound that's going to bounce you out of it. That's what the Scripture clearly states. If you're fixated at an immature age, you have a curse of immaturity. The curse of the fool is a cur- -- is the curse of immaturity, and the Scripture clearly states that the only thing that will help that condition to -- if you're foolish, or if you're immature, is a rod across your back. The fool is without understanding. The fool is self-destructive. The fool is without responsibility or commitment. And the Scripture clearly states, what you need is a rod across your back.

Now, in this hour, we can't do it physically. God has to do it spiritually. But if that's your problem, brethren, lean into the stroke that the Lord gives you. Don't run away. Lean into Him. He's saving your life, He's saving your life, He's saving your life. Glory to God.

Wasn't that interesting?

            [INAUDIBLE] a question?

Yes. [UNINTELLIGIBLE] that.

Would it still be considered infantile if, say, for instance, a girl was -- some kind of abuse when she was very young, and she didn't remember it till she was, well, in maybe her 40s or even 50s?

Is it infantile? Yes, it's infantile, but, you see, the word infantile is not an insult. It's merely a fact, that in the emotional area where you're traumatized, that your -- when faced with a similar situation, your response is infantile. It's not an insult. It's just the truth.

To me, that's saying your response is immature, and it doesn't seem to apply.

Well, an infant -- infantile is younger than immature, but you could -- he says infantile, you know, and what is an infantile response? Well, you have -- I can never keep up with you people. Do you have four or six children? Six, OK. We have a couple of sixes around here. You have four. OK.

You've had six children. What is an infantile response? An infantile response is to desire immediate gratification, not being able to wait for your gratification. An infantile response is to have a temper tantrum, if you don't get what you want. An infantile response is to demand what you think you need. This is all infantile. This is without condemnation. This is the truth. When the personality that is infantile is in the body of a 6-month-old baby, you don't think twice about it, but when these kinds of responses come forth in a physically and intellectually mature adult, that person can be in torment, because the average person isn't going to put up with it. So, if you're a human being that has these problems, and when you have a problem with another human being, and your reaction is to be infantile, the average person out there isn't going to put up with it. So you've really got a problem. If you can't communicate with people, if you can't solve problems, if you can't put off your gratification to cooperate and get things done, to work as a group, to work together -- if you can't do that, you've got a problem in this world. So it is no condemnation, and you've got to know what your problem is, so that you can ask God to help you to grow up.

Yeah, but that's on a conscious level. I'm talking about something that pops out of your subconscious mind, and suddenly, you remember something that related to your childhood. And I can't see the gap between that being infantile.

Well, I don't think that we're talking about remembering something that happened. We're talking about having a repetition of that experience on an unconscious level and your response being the same as it was when you were very young. That -- we're talking about an uncon- -- we're talking about a situation similar to the one that traumatized you as a child coming into your life and you having the same reaction to it that you had when you were 8 years old, but now you're 45. So that 8-year-old reaction to this event has to contaminate your life. It can't do you any good. And, for some reason, no matter how hard you've tried -- you've prayed, you've done everything -- and you still respond in the same way. That's a curse. And the way that curse is going to be broken is by a rod across your back. It's what my Bible says. I didn't say it.

Sixty-year-old woman, bowing down to her mother and father's wishes, is that you're really a girl. I didn't get the connection there, but I --

Well, we're supposed to honor our parents, but I perceive that what you meant was bow down to your parents' manipulation. We're not supposed to be bowing down to anyone's manipulation, even our parents. The question is how you deal with it and with -- well, you see, we're told to honor our parents. Honor your parents, OK. We're not told to be victims of their manipulation. So there's a big misunderstanding in the church about this. You don't have to be manipulated by your parents. The question is, you have to get instructions from Jesus, how to deal with it, so that you're not sinning against them.

I had a question here. I had a question here. Is addiction the same as a curse, but I've forgotten?

Is addict- -- addiction is a curse. I don't know that I would say it's the same as a curse, but an addiction is a curse. There are many kinds of curses.

            [INAUDIBLE]

An addiction is compulsive behavior, where you cannot stop doing something, but a curse does not have to be compulsive. A curse -- we've talked about this -- you can be married five times, and each times, your marriage can end the same way. They -- one of the examples he gave in this book, I know a woman who experienced. She married three times, and as -- each time, the man got cancer and died. Now she had -- when she married the man, he was a healthy man, and within a couple of years, all three of them got cancer and died. That's a curse. That -- that's not compulsive. That's a curse.

            That's [INAUDIBLE].

Yeah, and this one woman that I have in mind -- I haven't seen her in a while, but I know her -- I think she got married a fourth time, and she met this man. She was no youngster anymore. She had been married three times. She had grown children. And she met a man who was a bachelor. He had never been married, and he wanted to marry her, and she just told him upfront. She said, you know, I had three husbands. They all died of cancer. But he married her anyway, and they had a few good years together, but the last I heard, he got sick and he died. I don't know whether it was cancer or not, but the key is that she had four husbands, all four of which she wound up nursing unto their death. It happened four times to her.

The police are investigating her. Would you say the curse is on her?

Yes.

That the curse is on her.

Yes.

Not the person that died, right?

Well, to die a death like that is a curse. You know, to die a slow death, you know, from cancer is a curse. But the curse that made her have four similar experiences is on her. You know, it could have been on the men also. I don't know, but there's -- no, the other men were only married once. They were all only married once.

            [INAUDIBLE] how she cooked.

How she cooked?

            [INAUDIBLE]

She was a nice lady. Anybody else?

The Scripture that says, thy walls are continually before me. Off the top of your head, does that have anything to do with the wall that you're talking about here, or is there a deeper meaning behind it?

I don't know, but it sounds good, you know. It sounds good. We all have natural defense, so to be continually before God, to me, would mean that He's defending us. But that's just off the top of my head. I haven't looked at it in the Hebrew.

When you were talking about the children, I kept hearing the word belittling when, you know, the father or the mother put down the child. They make the child -- belittle -- it keeps them -- what was the word you used? Arrested development or fixation, something, they keep them at that stage. They keep them -- belittling them.

Well you have to --

            Keep them small.

We all have to have a definition of belittlement. I've told you this before. It's a big problem here and in the church. A lot of people don't have their definitions straight. You can rebuke a child, and it can be godly. You can tell them their fault and ask them to make a correction, and it can be godly. To belittle a child or anybody is a spirit. That's it. It's the spirit in which you do it. So you can have two parents telling -- each telling their child the same thing, and with one parent, they're belittling the child, and the other parent, they're bringing a correction.

So we've got a big problem in this country, a lot of people thinking they can't correct or rebuke their children because it's breaking their spirit, but that's not true. If you correct them in the spirit of Christ, it's breaking Satan in them. We had this message last week. If you correct them in -- anybody, your children or anybody in the spirit of Christ, you're breaking the power or Satan over them and helping them to discipline themselves and building Christ in them, making them strong. But if you're correcting them in a spirit that's breaking their human spirit, which is Christ in them, you're killing them, and that's a spirit of condemnation and belittlement. You can't tell by the words what spirit it is, and Christ can bring a sharp rebuke.

The long-range test of the spirit is the fruit of that rebuke. If it brings improvement in the person's life, but you really -- eventually, we all need to be able to try that spirit right on the spot. So, if you can't do it, that's something to pray about. Ideally, we should have -- at least have a judgment as to what spirit it is on the stop -- on the spot, but always be open to correction, because Christ can be very sharp. Jesus overturned the tables of the moneylenders. He was very sharp with them, and Christ can bring a sharp rebuke. So you can't say that it's -- you can't try a spirit based on that. It has to be His -- you can't try a spirit based on the tone of the voice or the words. It has to be a testing of the actual spirit. I can't give you any more instructions. I don't know how to tell you that I'd do it, but it has to come out of your spirit. Like, you don't -- you can't by the -- what's happening externally.

You spoke before about bastards. When do we actually stop being bastards -- become --

Oh, bastard.

-- children of God? Why, am I saying something different?

I thought that Joseph was shocked.

[CROSSTALK] it's a saying, Joseph. I know we're not born again till we've had our carnal mind completely covered over with the mind of Christ and --

Right.

So, at what point do we say that we are no longer bastards, and we are children of God?

Well --

Or do we have to wait until that born-again experience where the mind of Christ completely takes over the carnal mind?

It's my understanding of the Scriptures that almost everything that God does, He does in two stages. And we found, when we did a study in Daniel 7, that from the moment the seed engrafts to you, as far as God is concerned, you're His child, but it's by faith. You're His child by faith. From the moment the seed engrafts to you, He begins His correction. He starts putting a rod to the back of your carnal mind, but He considers you His, which -- it doesn't become an experiential reality until you stand up in full stature. Does that make any sense to you?

The engrafted seed is when you received the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

No.

            Oh, no?

No. The engrafted word or the engrafting of the seed or the conception of Christ, to the best of my knowledge -- you know, God could do anything, but to the best of my knowledge, it happens sometime after you receive the Holy Ghost, and it's the beginning of Christ being formed in you. If all that you have is the Holy Spirit, you're not a son. Oh, I hear everybody screaming. Look, I'm telling you the truth, you know. If you're a son, you're going to be chastened. You're going to be chastened, if you're a son.

So, engrafted and fertilized -- fertilization -- is one and the same then?

Yes. The engrafting of the seed fertilizes your human spirit, yeah. You know, all these people out there talking about God can give you gifts. There's nothing wrong with it. But if all that's happening in your life is that He's giving your houses and Cadillacs and cars and jobs and clothes and vacation and giving you everything that you want, because you're a King's kid, you may be a King's kid, but you're a bastard King's kid --

            Yeah.

-- because the ones that are His, He's chastening. And there's a lot of condemnation in the church. You know, people that are going through this chastening, and they're looking at other aspects of the church, and they're saying, something is wrong here. I must be bad. There mu- -- and then, many people in the church are looking at people in trouble with heartache and telling them, well, there must be something really bad with you, man. I don't know. God just gave me a Cadillac, and you just lost your third job. What's your problem?

Well, the problem is that God's breaking that guy's pride, the one who just lost the third job, and He's crushing him and bringing him to a place where he's going to submit to Christ. And the guy that just got the Cadillac is a bastard. Well, it sounds like a contradiction, but it's the truth.

Well, I was [UNINTELLIGIBLE].  He also would have to think of a [UNINTELLIGIBLE].

Well, that makes him a bastard.

            [INAUDIBLE]

That doesn't mean you have to stay a bastard forever, you see. In Christ, nothing is forever except Christ. He's the only thing that's forever. He's the potential for every difficult aspect of your life to change, but that doesn't deny the truth that at the moment, you're a bastard. OK.

What is chastening?

Correction. Correction, and the way God corrects you is usually through painful experiences. Does that sound familiar?

That's the way that you have mercy.

That's right.

Chastening means to purify, right?

To chasten means to correct, but the corrections of God do purify your soul. The Hebrews prayed for judgment. They said, God, please bring judgment. Why? Why would they pray that? Because, when there's no judgment, violence covers the land. Look at what's happening to this country. Pray for judgment. We see they're all praying for revival. I don't pray for revival. I can't, in all conscience, pray for revival. Judgment must come on this country. Just pray that God's mercy is present in the judgment. Revival isn't going to do it.

Let me explain the difference to you. Revival comes to a nation that has not known Christ, and evangelists or missionaries go in, and they bring the Word of God, and they bring the Spirit of God, and revival falls. Revival is a powerful move of God's Spirit. But this nation is a Christian nation. This nation was dedicated to Christ from its foundation. Revival won't help us. We're reprobate. We've gone astray. Why didn't God give a revival to Judah? Why did He send them into captivity, to Ba- -- in Babylon for 70 years? Why didn't He bring a revival in Judah?

Once you've heard from God, once you've experienced God, and you cannot walk in what He's told you, He beats you. He doesn't bring a revival. What is in a revival? A revival brings the Word of God and the Spirit of God. You've had that for 300 years. Uh-uh. There's a strong stroke coming to this nation. I'm telling you, the church is out there, playing games, praying for what little doodads they think are going to make them happy today: what they want, what they need, what they want to do with their lives. I want to tell you something. When that stroke comes down on this nation, you'd better start praying right now that you've got an engrafted seed and that He's manifesting in you and that He's going to take care of you, because when that stroke falls, it's falling you too.

And you'd better get ready, because it's falling. This is no time to run out playing games, asking God to give you little gifts. You're supposed to be preparing for the war. Don't you be one of those people who got what they wanted, and when the meat was in their mouth, what happened? Destruction fell. They didn't even finish their meal. They were complaining. They didn't like the food God gave them. It wasn't rich enough for them. It wasn't good enough for them. They wanted meat, and there's nothing wrong with wanting meat, but you ask God once, and if He says no -- for this season you're going to have this light bread -- you take what you get. But they weren't happy, and they complained, and they complained. And guess what? He gave them what they wanted, and as they sat there eating it, destruction fell. Don't be a fool. Don't be a fool.

I'm not a preacher of condemnation. It's in the Bible. I'm telling you the truth. This country is coming under severe judgment, and the only Christians that are going to survive are the Christians in whom Christ is manifesting, and that's probably only an eighth of the Christians, if that. And the Christians that do not have Christ manifesting in them, the Christians that have received the Holy Spirit, no matter how much they say they love Jesus, if He's not engrafted to their soul, they're going to come under the judgment like the rest of the country. He's got to be the God in the midst of you.

It's a hard word, but I'm telling you the truth. Any other questions? Oh, I don't want to leave it on a somber note like that.

OK. Could you explain engraft -- Jesus engrafted to the soul a little bit?

OK. Jesus, in this hour, is glori- -- is a glorified spirit, and He is in the earth in the form known as God's Holy Spirit. That is the glorified Jesus Christ, and when he comes upon you, that experience is called receiving the Holy Ghost. When it comes upon you, He starts to flow over you. He's in your life. He's flowing through your mind, but He has to make a connection with your mind, and when He makes a connection with your mind, it's -- that's the engrafted Word. Jesus is the Word. And when He connects -- and He comes from the outside -- and when He connects with your mind and joins to it, that's the engrafting of Jesus or the engrafting of the Word or the engrafting of the seed.

And when He joins to your mind, Christ begins to grow in you, Christ in you, the hope of glory. And that's the Savior in the midst of you. You see, the glorified Spirit of Jesus Christ is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit's not the Savior. Oh, I hear them screaming. The Holy Spirit's not the Savior! Christ is the Savior, and if Christ is growing in me, He's not doing you any good. He's got to be growing in you.

Now let me correct that. He may be doing you some good. I may pray for you, and you can get blessed from me. But if we're talking about saving your life, He's got to be inside of you. I'm telling you outright. If there's starvation going on out there, if there's atom bombs falling, whatever's happening, He's got to be growing inside of you. That doesn't mean God can't have sovereign mercy anywhere that He wants, but I'm telling you the truth. Get ready. Get ready, prepare for this thing, because it's already fallen on us.

Just look at what's happening. Listen to the news. Look at -- we've got a weak president. We've got a weak president. War is raging all around the world, and we've got a man that doesn't know anything about it. He's weak. He's not morally sound. Watch out. It's coming. Get ready. Look at the size of this group. They're all in the other church, dancing and singing. Yea, revival's coming, hallelujah. I'm going to get my new house.

I'm telling you. If all I could do was warn you -- look. Noah preached for 120 years, and how many people believed him? Eight souls, his own immediate family.

Wasn't there actually only four, and their wives were within them?

The Scripture says eight souls. I believe there were four human beings, each of them male and female, but the Scripture says eight souls. It doesn't say eight men. It says eight souls.

When Jesus was at the Jordan, the Scriptures say, in the form of a dove, that -- it really didn't happen. That was only symbolic, right? There really was no dove.

No, there was no dove. We have a message on that. I know you have that message -- you took it home -- where I go into that, word by word, in the Greek, and we found out -- we -- when we looked up the Greek word, we took -- we chose different translations than the King James translators chose. And we found out, as we pored through the Scripture, that the dove typifies the living soul -- typifies the living soul, and what the Scripture was saying was that the Spirit of God came down and joined to Jesus' humanity. It came down and joined to His humanity.

So there's a whole message on that. That's really hard for me to just explain in a few words. The series is "Jesus in the Jordan," and I think it's Message 2 -- Part 2.
